Ethics has no formulas, so many Level I candidates leave it for the final two weeks. That is a strategic error. What CFA Institute actually says about the ethics adjustment, the standards candidates confuse most, and a case-based method with weekly touch-points from the start.

Every candidate can recite the WACC formula. The points are lost on the inputs: yield rather than coupon, the tax shield on debt only, market values rather than book, the market risk premium rather than the market return, and knowing when WACC is the wrong rate.

Automation is commoditising mechanical analysis. What stays scarce is judgment: choosing the right model, knowing when the data misleads and what the number omits. Why it resists automation, what the spreadsheet era suggests, and how judgment is trained through deliberate repetition with feedback.

The final 30 days are for consolidation, not new learning. A week-by-week plan built on mocks and error logs, a hard list of what to stop doing, and the official passport, calculator and exam-day rules to check before the last week.

In investment banking, the CFA is a secondary signal. It can help non-target candidates, career switchers and markets-facing bankers, and it matters more on the way out to the buy side. In M&A execution seats, modeling skill, deal experience and relationships decide.

Four to six full mocks with structured error review beat ten mocks taken for the score. A concrete schedule for the final eight weeks, a 48-hour protocol for every miss, and how to read mock scores when no official passing score is published.

Duration and maturity are both quoted in years, which is exactly why candidates confuse them. Maturity is a date. Duration is a sensitivity. Macaulay vs modified duration, the three drivers, a worked price-change example and the traps built on the overlap.

The CFA is a credibility bridge, not a teleport. For career switchers it signals commitment and baseline knowledge, not experience, and the charter itself requires investment work. What it signals, the entry paths that work, the common failure mode and realistic timelines.

The USD 267,000 charterholder average is real, but it answers the wrong question. Why salary statistics mislead, what pay looks like by role and region, and why the CFA works through access and ceiling rather than an automatic raise.
